When I was super-serious about playing the drums, I’d spend hours working on my meter with a metronome. If you’re obsessed with acquiring atomic clock precision, a metronome is one of the most essential tools you can own.

There is a problem, though. The louder you play, the less you can hear the tick-tocks. Sure, you can eyeball the pendulum, but it’s not the same as hearing that you’re right on the beat.
