This moving graph takes us through the history of the singles on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking things down by genre and year. It’s a fascinating look at how the popularity of specific types of music waxed and waned since 1958.

I don’t remember rock being that popular in the Top 40 in 1983, but I stand corrected.
