Could Spotify FINALLY launch their hi-res streams? Maybe.

Spotify may be the biggest music streamer in the world, but they are objectively the worst-sounding. Most the competition–Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, Deezer, and Qobuz among them, all offer hi-res streams, the quality of which often exceeds that of CDs. Yet Spotify users are stuck with some pretty average audio.

Oh, there are plans to fix that. We’ve been hearing about Spotify Hi-Fi for years. So far, there’s been nothing. However, there may have been progress.

People who know how to dissect Spotify’s code say that better audio may be “right around the corner this time.” We may be looking at 24-bit 44.1 kHz, which is slightly better than CD quality and is lossless, meaning there’s no audio compression. Spotify (and, frankly, the entire recorded music industry) is hoping that people will notice. And believe me, once you go lossless, you will NEVER go back.
