Dance on to help MusiCounts

Need something fun to do on a Thursday night? Has it been ages since you’ve felt the urge to go out dancing? 

Set your alarm for 9 p.m. tonight, June 18, for the MusiCounts Virtual Dance Party, a way to get your groove on while helping raise money for a wonderful organization. 

Donations are accepted and will be generously matched by Frank Walker up to $2,500 — he’s also one of the performers.

Also on the dance ticket are Young Bombs,Loud Luxury and Babylung, a 2019 MusiCounts scholarship recipient. 

All proceeds from the event will go toward funding music programs in schools.

MusiCounts, as most know, raises money to help kids have access to musical instruments they might not otherwise be able to learn how to play. 

In 2019, MusiCounts provided nearly $1 million worth of musical instruments and equipment to 90 schools across Canada through the organization’s Band Aid program. Each school received up to $15,000 instruments and gear to help expand an existing music program or to help create a brand new one. In some cases, schools received traditional instruments to help kids learn more about the music of their cultural heritage and identity. Other schools received adaptive instruments to make sure all students could learn how to play music. 

MusiCounts also highlights exceptional music teachers, provides scholarships for post-secondary education and has a distance learning program to allow people who might not have access to regular classroom or other instruction the opportunity to learn how to play.
