Determined to Get an iPhone X? You Could Be Waiting Until 2018.

You’ve made up your mind. You’re going to get an iPhone X, costs be damned. I hope you’re patient.

Apple has already told us that there’s been a glitch in the supply chain, leading to a shortage of the new OLED screens. That’s one explanation for why the phone won’t be available for order until October 27th with deliveries started November 3. Even if those dates hold, the number of units available will probably fall short of demand. Those who can get on the website in time to place an order will be few and far between and once the initial allotment is sold out, buyers will have to wait until more units are available. Christmas demand will only make it more difficult to get your hands on one. That means there’s a very good chance that you won’t get your phone until sometime in 2018.

But there’s also another more practical reason on Apple’s part. The company doesn’t want to cannibalize sales of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which will be available for order starting this Friday.

I hope you’re patient.
