Documentary on the Langley Schools Music Project

Some of the eeriest, bleakest and yet most interesting music I’ve ever heard came out of a school in Langley, British Columbia.  In 1976 and 1977, a music teacher named Hans Fenger led a choir of 9-12 year-olds in renditions of songs by David Bowie, the Beach Boys and others.

Eventually, these recordings became part of the study of “outsider music” which in itself is a fascinationg area of exploration.

A VH1 documentary on the original LSMP is now available online.  A sample of the music after the jump.
