Duran Duran wins the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fan vote

Every year, fans get a chance to vote on which of the nominees should get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It sounds all democratic, but the truth is that the millions of these votes only count a smidgen towards who actually gets in. The heavy lifting–the voting bloc with the real power–are the 900 or so members of the Rock Hall voting committee. And since most of them have already made their choices, the fan vote is mostly an illusion.

Oh, and fans could vote more than once. The more motivated the fanbase, the more votes the act got.

Still, it’s interesting to see how the public has spoken. Fan voting has now closed and there are the final results.

  1. Duran Duran: 934,880 votes
  2. Eminem: 684,827
  3. Pat Banatar: 631,299
  4. Eurythmics: 442,271
  5. Dolly Parton, 393,796

Those first five vote-getters will somehow figure into the Hall’s final voting procedures. In the “better luck next time category” we have:

  • Judas Priest: 365,999
  • Carly Simon: 335,489
  • Lionel Ritchie: 302,877
  • Devo: 224,723
  • Kate Bush: 207,563
  • Rage Against the Machine: 190,063
  • Dionne Warwick: 186,038
  • A Tribe Called Quest: 145,287
  • New York Dolls: 120.958
  • Beck: 99,771
  • MC5: 93,666
  • Fela Kuti: 69,656
