Ed Sheeran has COVID–and there are concerns

Ed Sheeran has been diagnosed positive with COVID-19, leaving the producers of Saturday Night Live just a day or two to find a replacement for his scheduled musical guest slot this weekend.

Such a last-minute substitution is stressful for the producers but not unprecedented. Elvis Costello and The Attractions famously subbed in for the Sex Pistols in 1977 when they couldn’t get their visas in order. Note that the drummer’s shirt reads “Thanks Malc,” a reference to Pistols’ manager Malcolm McLaren, who’s managerial shortcomings made this appearance possible.

More recently, Jack White stepped in when country star Morgan Wallen after some stupid comments got him dis-invited. And back in 1990, Sinead O’Connor refused to appear when she heard the guest host was Andrew Dice Clay. An unknown (at least to me) band called Spanic Boys was brought in along with Twin Peaks singer, Julee Cruise.

As I write this, we have no idea who will fill in for Ed. But a bigger concern is a week ago, he had a meeting with Prince William and Kate.
