Elon Musk won’t like this song: “Twitter Must Die”

About a year after I joined Twitter in 2008, I began to see the app’s utility, especially when it came to getting breaking news. It really hit home on June 25, 2009, when Twitter told me that Michael Jackson had died. This was long before the news filtered through traditional broadcast outlets. I was hooked.

Now, though, Twitter (I can’t bring myself to call it X) is a cesspool of trolls, wingnuts, and disinformation. Elon Musk sunk the thing with his egomania and narcissism. I still check it out from time to time, but I far prefer Threads (follow me here), even though it’s Meta and that means Mark Zuckerberg, another loathsome tech bro.

I’m not alone. Twitter users are down (it’s around 350 million now compared to Threads’ 200 million–and it’s only been online for a little more than a year), engagement is crap, and revenue is cratering. No wonder people are bailing for Threads. Hell, BlueSky has more than 10 million users. Twitter haters are everywhere.
