Explaining the Stage Collapses

From today’s Toronto Star:

“This summer three stages at music events have collapsed and a video projection screen toppled down during storms, including the latest incident in Belgium where three people were killed and dozens injured.

“The collapse of the stage at the outdoor Pukkelpop Festival, occurred only days after a stage at an outdoor concert collapsed at the Indiana State Fair. There, five people were killed.

“Earlier this summer, during a storm, a 40-tonne stage roof fell at an outdoor festival in Ottawa. And in Tulsa, Okla., The Flaming Lips’ video projection screen came toppling down at an outdoor music festival in August.

“With so many accidents suddenly plaguing outdoor music festivals many are wondering about the reasons behind them.”

  • This article still doesn't explain what happened in these 4 stage collapses only that there are differing opinions on how they should be built. Its now a serious issue because many people died and I'm sure there will be others if this trend keeps happening. Whether the government takes over control of how they should be built or not someone is going to have to be held accountable. Families and loved ones of the deceased are more than likely going to be filing lawsuits and there will be a huge amount of press and a huge production made out of these incidents. I've heard and read about the conspiracies that this was done on purpose and that these were created weather accidents and then the other extreme that it was a fluke. All I can think of is the people who died in these horrible experiences and the people who were injured and the anxiety and uncertainty that they are no doubt going through and will continue to go through.
