Did You Find the Vintage Video Game Hidden on Radiohead’s OK Computer Reissue?

In hindsight, we should have expected Radiohead to slip some kind of Easter egg into the reissue of OK Computer subtitled OKNOTOK. And what better sort of surprise than a vintage computer game?

If you haven’t found it yet, don’t look on the CD. The deluxe box edition comes with a “C90 cassette mixtape compiled by the band, taken from OK Computer session archives and demo tapes.” Drop the tape in a player and you’ll hear some weird beeps. That tipped off some fans to the fact that something strange was on that tape.

To get even geekier about this, guitarist Jonny Greenwood own a ZX Spectrum, an ancient (1982) 8-bit computer released by a British firm called Sinclair Research. Although totally obsolete now, they’re treasured by people enamored with the history of personal computing gadgets.

Apparently, Jonny learned BASIC and coded in a computer game on the tape–which, in case you’re too young to remember, was how computer programs were stored and loaded prior to any kind of disc drives. Leave it to someone on Reddit to figure out what was going on.

Well played, Radiohead. Well played. (Via Radio.com)
