Forget Gold and Platinum Records. Did You Know There’s a Diamond YouTube Play Button?

There have been sales awards almost as long as there has been recorded music. Every artist dreams of a gold, platinum or diamond-selling record. (If you’re Paul McCartney, you have a rhodium award, too.)

But in an age where fewer and fewer people are buying albums in the traditional way, it’s time to offer up a new kind of award. YouTube, for example, has a Diamond Play Button for personalities of all stripes who exceed 10 million subscribers. That’s a nice number, considering a Diamond record means it has sold 10 million copies.

The latest person to receive a Diamond Play Button is Psy.
