Gadget Porn: The First 3D Audio Recording Earphones

Most all the music we listen to is in stereo, the programming divided into left and right channels. Careful mixing can make the soundscape seem to have dimensions of depth and width, but we’re still essentially hearing things in 2D.

Binaural recording creates a more 3D effect, allowing music to sound much more lifelike. The music not only moves from left to right but up and down as well as forward and behind. It’s a totally immersive experience, far greater than what we get with standard stereo.

This is where Lifelike comes in. Its creators call it “the world’s first 3D audio recording headset.” This video explains how it all works.
