Gift Idea: Mini Rechargeable USB Turntable

Way, way back in the day, I had a portable record player.  I’m pretty sure it was purchased at Simpson-Sears sometime in the very early 70s.

It was in a hideous green case made of wood with a cloth speaker grill on the front.  It had two controls:  on/off/volume and “tone” instead of separate bass and treble controls.  It coupld play any record:  33 1/3, 45, 78–even 16 2/3 when there were such things.

In an era when my parents (or the parents of any of my friends) didn’t have a proper stereo–unless we’re talking about this hulking “console stereos” with brand names like Viking that were more furniture than electronics device–this thing was a godsend.  I hauled this thing everywhere until it finally gave out.

This explains the blast of nostalgia I felt when I ran across this little thing:  a decent portable turntable with a USB connection and a rechargable lithium battery, all contained in a stylish little briefcase.  And it’s only $100.
