With marijuana on track to be legalized in Canada next year, many people are making hopeful investments in cannabis companies in anticipation of a whole new market.
After Gord Downie was diagnosed with glioblastoma, the Tragically Hip dropped some money into Newstrike, a medical marijuana company with a 14,000 square foot legal grow-op. The firm produces 3,000 kg of cannabis every year.
Gord’s oncologist was a big supporter of the idea, suggestion Gord regular consume cannabis as a way of mitigating the symptoms of his cancer. The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada also approved.
Back in June, the band called the legalization of pot a “common sense policy.”
By the way, if you want to check on Newstrike’s stock, the ticker symbol is HIP. Seriously.
This was on their home page Wednesday night.
