Green Day’s new video blew the budget on getting Mark Hamill

If you’ve going to shoot a video for a song you call “Corvette Summer,” you need two things: (1) a Corvette, and (2) the guy who starred in a movie called Corvette Summer. And that’s what they did.

Mark Hamill’s first post-Star Wars/Luke Skywalker gig was in a 1978 adventure comedy film. It was a creative bomb but was actually rather successful at the box office.

Green Day’s song from the Saviors album is summed up like this: “The song was named after one of our favourite cult classic movies, so it only made sense to pay homage to it with the music video. We even took things one step further and got Mark Hamill – who starred in the original – to star in our remake alongside us, Hannibal Buress, and some others.

“We blew the entire budget on them, so we had to get creative with cardboard boxes, some duct tape and matchbox cars we found in Tre’s basement. Directed by the dynamic duo Ryan Baxley & Brendan Walter. Buckle up, and enjoy the ride!”
