Gruesome Music Story of the Day: Mexican Band Goes Missing

Last Thursday night, a band called Kombo Kolombia went to play a gig ata bar called La Carretta in the northern Mexican state of Neuvo Leon.  This is a large band with twelve members and eight crew.

After they finished their gig at this rather remote bar, they disappeared.  Vanished.  No one knew where any of them went. None arrived home Friday morning and no one was answering their cell phones.

It turns out they were all kidnapped.  The only reason we know that is because one member of the entourage managed to escape and call police.  He led them to a well where they found the bodies of four band members.  Everyone else is still missing.

If you guessed that drug violence is behind this, you’re right.  Musicians have been targeted by cartel members and gangs over the past decade.  Their biggest sins seem to have been booked to play in bars that have been targeted by cartels for some kind of indiscretion.
