Guess Which Artist Made the Most Money in 2011

Billboard has put together a list they call Music’s Top Money Makers 2012, which is a bit of misnomer since they’re actually talking about the income these acts made last year.  And who ended up at #1?

Not U2.  They have to divide things five ways between the four band members and manager Paul McGuinness.

Not Adele.  She did well, but her inability to tour in 2011 because of throat issues cut deep into her earning potential.

Not Lady Gaga.  She was the top money-maker in 2011 but fell from the top spot this year.

Negatori on the Foo Fighters, Paul McCartney or the Beatles.  Rihanna? Kanye? Bieber?  Nope, nope, nope.

The artist who grossed the highest income in 2011 was…

…Taylor Swift?

Yep.  She pulled down $35,719,902 last year, some $3 million head of U2 and $6 million ahead of Kenny Chesney.

It’s an interesting list.  Who knew that Sade earned more money ($16 million) in 2011 than Adele ($13 million).  How could Journey make $12 million when they don’t even have their proper lead singer?  And good for Rush for raking in nearly $6 million.
