Happy Birthday Black Album

It was twenty years ago today that Metallica released what we’ve come to call The Black Album (it’s really just a self-titled record in a black cover, but nevermind.)

It debuted at #1 in ten countries, threw off six radio hits and has sold no fewer than 22 million copies worldwide.  If you believe some studies, it’s the largest selling record of the SoundScan era.  It certainly turned the band into the Led Zeppelin of the 90s.  And yes, it was produced by a Canadian.

Lars asks that you not illegally download the album in celebration.
