Has Spotify stopped allowing people to cancel subscriptions?

Spotify has been receiving a lot of blowback since Neil Young declared war on the platform over Joe Rogan’s misinformation and disinformation about COVID. Anecdotally, I’ve heard of people canceling their subscriptions in solidarity with Neil, vowing to give all their streaming business to Apple Music or some other DSP.

Word Friday morning (January 28) is that Spotify is no longer allowing people to cancel their subs. Their customer service system is overwhelmed and it just can’t keep up with the demand.

I assumed that this is a tech issue, not some hostage situation. It’ll have to be resolved in the coming hours. If not, here come the legal headaches. It’ll be interesting to see if Spotify reports on exactly what’s happening.\

  • Spotify should be ashamed. People die due to Conspiracy Joe and his bullshit. I will tell everyone I know to cancel.

  • Spotify is a greed-driven CORPORATE ‘middle man’. Same as the pre-Internet music business, except with a larger reach, and with a chilling degree of power.
Never spent a dime at Spotify; never will.

SPOTIFY IS NOT THE MUSIC ARTISTS’ FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Neil Young is still one of the only artists that challenges the music industry. He’s a rate breed and should be backed by his fans.
At this point this has transcend from a Vaxx misinformation issue to a music industry wide issue.

  • Cancelled mine 2 days ago. No issues, probably a tech issue. Glad to see so many people slamming the door!
