Heading Out to Record Store Day? Here’s Where You Can Go in Canada

Unlike last year when friends from The Zone 91.3 in Victoria took me shopping (and spending), I will have to sit out this year’s Record Store Day because I’m in a country that’s yet to recognize the event.  The closest participating store to me is 3,000 kilometres away in Pretoria, South Africa.  So that would be a “no,” then.

But if I were back home, here’s the sort of Canadian stuff I’d try to track down at stores like these.

ARKELLS (Heavy Plaid) – Sing Motown, a vinyl 45 with a couple of covers:  Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and “Get Ready” by The Temptations.

BLUE RODEO (Warner) – 25th anniversary edition of Diamond Mine in the form of a double-LP. Blue blue and green vinyl, too!

SAM ROBERTS BAND (Paper Bag) – A limited edition 12-inch vinyl releases featuring four tracks: “We’re All In This Together,” “Shapeshifters” and remixes by plus Andrew Weatherall and Young Galaxy.

SPIRIT OF THE WEST (Warner) – Purple vinyl 7-inch with two of their biggest songs:  “Home For A Rest” and “Save This House”.
