Here are The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for 2024
After weeks and weeks of van voting and backroom voting by whoever is on the official committee, we now know who will be inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this fall.
Here are the lists along with any snarky comments from me.
Performer Category:
- Mary J. Blige (Not exactly rock, but rock fans lost this battle long ago.)
- Cher (JEEZUS? SERIOUSLY?)
- Dave Matthews Band (There was a big fan vote push for them. They finished in first place.)
- Foreigner (I guess… Not far behind DMB in the fan voting.)
- Peter Frampton (I can get behind this one.)
- Kool & The Gang (Because no one rocks like them, right?)
- Ozzy Osbourne (Absolutely.)
- A Tribe Called Quest (Brilliant band but rock? And in the fan voting, they finished second last, just behind Mary J. Blige. They didn’t even get 100,000 fan votes.
Musical Influence Award:
- Alexis Korner (Yes!)
- John Mayall (ABSOLUTELY!)
- Big Mama Thornton (You mean she wasn’t in the Hall already? About time!)
Musical Excellence Award:
- Jimmy Buffett
- MC5
- Dionne Warwick
- Norman Whitfield
This is the Hall’s equivalent of a participation trophy. They’ll never made it into the Hall in the conventional votes, so they gotta do something to deflect the inevitable criticism.
Ahmet Ertegun Award:
- Suzanne de Passe
Who didn’t make it?
- Lenny Kravitz, despite finishing ahead of Kool and the Gang in the fan vote.
- Sinead O’Connor. A travesty.
- Mariah Carey, Maybe there is a god.
- Oasis
- Sade
- Jane’s Addiction
- Erik B and Rakim

How ca A Tribe Called Quest be inducted but not Iron Maiden? They’ve probably sold more albums in Brasil than ATCQ has in the entire world.
I don’t know…
Ozzy is in already because of Black Sabbath, but I’m not sure his solo work has been influential enough to justify inclusion. I’m a fan, but I just don’t think he’s worthy. Especially considering that Iron Maiden aren’t in. But I guess they can only induct one hard rock act a year, right? Gotta leave room for the pop and r&b artists.
Pretty underwhelmed by almost all of the other inductees. Some talent there for sure, but just…meh.
Agree with the MC5, even though it’s not a proper induction. At least it’s something. And it’s the only way they would ever get recognized, so I guess it’s a good thing.
To quote Alex Lifeson from Rush’s induction: “Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah….”
Well, I suppose it’s called the Rock And Roll hall of fame, not the Rock’n’Roll hall of fame. So, maybe… slow your roll? Besides, it sounds better than just plainly the Music Hall of Fame. I like Quest.
