The cull has begun. With 223 suggested albums to choose from, the 201 jurors (including moi) for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize have selected the 40 artists for the Long List. They are (in alphabetical order):

Next up is another vote, which will bring things down to the Short List, which will be announced July 15. Those ten artists will then have to wait until the gala event in September when a sequestered jury will hammer out a winner. That record will be declared the best Canadian release of the last year, regardless of genre or commercial success. Of, and they get a $50,000 cheque. Everyone else will get a cheque for $3,000.
