Here we go again: Kenny Loggins is going after Trump for unauthorized use of music

I’m sure you’ve seen the video by now: King Trump gets into a jet fighter and attacks the American people by dumping watery sh*t all over them. So dignified. Such a child. What a disgrace. I won’t post it here because it doesn’t need any more attention, but feel free to Google it.

The 19-second AI clip is soundtracked by Kenny Loggins‘ “Danger Zone” from the first Top Gun movie. Of course, the Trump people got permission to use it, right? C’mon. Since when do they follow the rules of copyright and intellectual property? (“Danger Zone” was written by Giorgio Moroder and songwriter Tom Whitlock; Loggins was tapped to perform it.)

Kenny Loggins is livid. He issued this statement: “This is an unauthorized use of my performance of ‘Danger Zone.’ Nobody asked me for my permission, which I would have denied, and I request that my recording on this video is removed immediately.”

Silence from the White House.

It’s unclear whether Loggins is going to sue–I saw one social media post claiming he was suing for $500 million, but you can’t believe much on social media–but he would be within his rights under intellectual property law to do so.

Loggins joins this list of musicians who hate that Trump has co-opted their music:

  • Aerosmith
  • Beyonce
  • Brendon Urie of Panic! At the Disco
