Here’s a chance to buy a ticket for a gig on September 4, 2640. That is not a typo.

We’ve become accustomed to buying tickets to a concert that’s a year out or more. What about reserving a seat for a gig that’s still 614 years away?

Tickets are now available for the final note change of “As Slow As Possible” (also known as”ORGAN2/ASLSP”), the John Cage project at a church in Halberstadt, Germany. It began a little more 24 years ago on September 5, 2001, with a rest that lasted four years and one day before three notes (G♯4, B4, G♯5) were performed on February 5, 2003. The next note (A4) will be played on August 5 of this year. The final note will arrive on September 4, 2640.

If you’re interested, tickets are now on sale for that final moment. I quote from the website.

“Secure a ticket in your name for the project’s closing event on September 4, 2640. Can’t make it on that date? Something else has come up? No problem. The ticket is transferable. Just invite your descendants. You can also resell the ticket later if you suddenly have other plans.”

Hurry, though. Only 2640 tickets were made available and at last check, 593 were spoken for.
