Music News

Here’s an Instagram account you need to follow: Daily Music Data

I’m a sucker for any kind of data that describes/explains what’s going on in music. If that’s your jam, too, I highly recommend giving Daily Music Data (dailymusicdata) a follow on Instagram.

Each day comes with an interesting tidbit. For example, I’ve learned that:

  • 50% of people would leave a bar or restaurant if they didn’t like the music
  • 49% of all physical music sales in 2023 were in Asia
  • 90% of music fans in North America use Spotify as their primary podcast app
  • How often does the average user of a streaming music service fire up their app? Anywhere from 4-7 times a day.
  • 82% of Gen Zs find out about new music through social media
  • 20% of American teenage girls use TikTok “almost constantly”
  • The average hit song on the Billboard Hot 100 is 59 seconds shorter today than it was in the 1990s (4:14 down to 3:15)
  • The average ticket price for a top 100 tour in 2023 was US$131
  • 86% for songs on streaming platforms are streamed 1,000 times or less per year
  • 20% of music fans classify themselves as “superfans”
  • Spotify users have created 725,000,000 playlists so far in 2024.
  • On Spotify UK, songs that are 1-2 minutes long have a skip rate of 62%. We have no attention span anymore.
