Here’s an update on the terrorist plot at the Taylor Swift show in Austria. Things could have been very, very grim.

Earlier this month, three Taylor Swift stadium shows in Vienna, Austria, were canceled when a terror plot was discovered. A 19-year-old and two accomplioces (17 and 18-years-old) were arrested ahead of the gigs. A few more details have been made available.

The plan to attack some 30,000 fans gathered outside the venue was discovered by the CIA. The agency then alerted the authorities in Vienna. CIA Deputy Director David Cohen said this week:

“They were plotting to kill a huge number — tens of thousands of people at this concert, including I am sure many Americans — and were quite advanced in this. The Austrians were able to make those arrests because the agency and our partners in the intelligence community provided them information about what this ISIS-connected group was planning to do.”

Cohen did not give any details on how the agency came across this intelligence. Meanwhile, the lawyer for the 19-year-old–whose hasn’t been released because of Austrian privacy rules–say that all these allegations are greatly exaggerated.
