Here’s another reason to love Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Having talked to all the members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers over the years, the conversations I’ve enjoyed the most are with drummer Chad Smith. For a someone in one of the biggest bands in the world, he comes off as a super-friendly normal guy. Maybe it’s because he grew up in Detroit playing goalie in minor hockey.

He also cares deeply about music education. Not only is he involved with Musora, the Canadian online music lessons company, but he has a serious affection for involving kids in music.

His latest partnership is with School of Rock. He’s on a mission to expand access to music education for kids who might not otherwise get the chance.

From the press release:

“At School of Rock’s recent global gathering, Smith announced a partnership between the Chad Smith Foundation and the Play Without Limits Project to fund scholarships for students nationwide. The initiative is already helping kids from Illinois to Florida step into rehearsal rooms, pick up instruments, and perform live.”

Chad says this: “Music changed my life… what makes School of Rock so special is that it gives students both a music education and a community.” Love it.
