If it’s Monday evening, then Nielsen/MRC has the weekly sales and streaming stats for Canada. As has become our habit during the pandemic, let’s analyze things in two ways.

Year-over-year comparision

  • Total album sales, -35.6%
  • CD sales, -46.0%
  • Digital albums, -19.9%
  • Digital tracks, -26.0%
  • Vinyl LPs, -15.3%
  • On-demand audio, +16.3%

Week-to-week (a good indicator of the record music economy during COVID)

  • Total album sales, +1.3%
  • CD sales, +6.8%
  • Digital albums, -5.0%
  • Digital tracks, -4.8%
  • Vinyl LPs, +1.9%
  • On-demand audio, +0.4% (1.736 billion streams in the country last week)
