Here’s our weekly check on the Canadian sales battle between CDs and vinyl

Everyone loves a good scrap, which is why I’m keeping tabs on the Canadian sales race between CDs and vinyl. Here are the latest figures from Luminate.

  • Total CDs sold in Canada so far this year: 991,609 (down 15.9% from this time last year)
  • Total vinyl records sold in the country so far this year: 872,904 (ahead by 28.0% over 2023)
  • CDs sold across the country last week: 34,014 (down 1.7% from the previous week)
  • Vinyl LPs sold last week: 27,356 (down 6.1%)

And streaming just keeps growing.

  • Total songs streamed in Canada last week: 133,548,119 (up 0.3%)
  • Total songs streamed in Canada so far in 2024: 84,352,005,304 (up 11% from this point in 2023)
