Here’s video of my interview with Kirk Hammett of Metallica about his awesome vintage horror movie poster collection.

All the guys in Metallica have their non-musical passions. James into guitars. Lars plays tennis and is into collecting art. Robert is dabbling in creating documentaries about other bass players. And Kirk Hammett? He’s into horror–specifically collecting memorabilia from the golden age of horror and sci-fi movies.

Back in 2012, Kirk published a book called Too Much Horror Business, which detailed some of the material he’s collected over the last 30 years. That was followed by Kirk Von Hammett’s Fear FestEvil (say it fast), which is an annual horror convention that caters to people with the same passion.

Then there’s his traveling museum exhibit called It’s Alive! Classic Horror and Sci-Fi Art from the Kirk Hammett Collection. It’s so extensive and features material so rare that it’s been displayed at a number of high-end museums.

Come July 13, It’s Alive will begin a five-month run at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. And yes, Kirk will be dropping in. And do NOT forget his appearance with The Wedding Band, a one-time-only thing with fellow Metallica Rib Trujillo at Cosmo Music on July 26.

Back in January, I flew to Nashville to speak with Kirk about his posters before a Metallica show at the Bridgestone Arena. Here’s a sample.

I had a preview of the exhibition yesterday–and it’s very, very good. Read more about the ROM event here.
