Here’s What I Find Interesting About This New Editors Song: It Was a Beats 1 Event

Editors have a new album called In Dream coming out October 2nd. Another song from the album just received its world radio debut. Not on the BBC. Not on NPR. Not on any big commercial terrestrial station. No, it received its world premiere with Zane Lowe on Apple’s Beats 1.

It’s still early in Beats 1 existence to determine if this kind of promotion will help a band quickly gain significant traction. Yes, Spotify, Rdio, Tidal and all the rest of them have exclusives, Bbt the radio nerd in me wonders about the potential benefits of a simultaneous world-wide premiere of a song introduced by a real, live human being. I like it.

  • From my understanding Zane has been a supporter of the band since the early days. I have not even tried Beats 1 yet, but I was intrigued by the decision to bring Lowe onboard. I always liked listening to him on Radio 1. As someone who listens to a lot of bands from the UK, but almost never gets to see them live because no one knows who they are over here, I like the fact that Lowe is pushing some of his old favourites from the other side of the pond. Hope he can bring some of those bands some more exposure in North America.
