Hey, Kids: Watch This Prehistoric Film of People “Shopping for Records”

My favourite record store on the planet used to be the big Tower Records on Sunset Boulevard. Nothing would stop me from walking out of there with an armful of CDs, even when the exchange rate was at abysmal levels. The selection was amazing, especially when it came to imports (and not just stuff from the UK) and collections/anthologies/greatest hits sets. In the age before the Internet, it was heaven.

The store is gone, of course, along with the rest of Tower Records, a victim of changing consumer behaviour. But it’s still fun to look back on those days, as Boing Boing did when they posted this film of people shopping for records at Tower c.1971.
