Highlights from the First of Two David Bowie Tribute Concerts in NYC

There was a gathering of David Bowie fans at Carnegie Hall in New York last night to pay tribute to his legacy. Performers as diverse as the Flaming Lips, the Pixes, Sean Lennon, Cyndi Lauper and, Chewbacca were onstage.

Wait. Chewbacca?

In a bit of surrealism that would no doubt have made Bowie laugh out loud, the Lips’ Wayne Coyne sang “Life on Mars” while aboard Chewy’s shoulders.

Now here’s Michael Stipe and Karen Elson singing “Ashes to Ashes.”

The Pixies sang “Cactus.”

Here’s the entire running order of the evening.
