Hong Kong protestors channel Les Miserables as they shut down the airport
Things have gone from bad and weird to worse and weirder as protesters battle against authorities from mainland China who seek to squish more and more of Hong Kong’s autonomy.
After taking to the streets for months, protesters upped their game by heading out to Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong’s massive international airport and one of the busiest in the world. The airport was so swamped that all inbound and outbound flights were canceled, paralyzing air travel over that part of Asia.
The protesters have an anthem, of course. They’ve adopted “Do You Hear the People” sing from Les Miserables. Look.
