How did Taylor Swift manage to sell 2.7 million copies of her new album in a single day? I’ll tell you.

The news earlier this week was that Taylor Swift managed to move 2.7 million copies of her new album, Life of a Showgirl, the highest-ever first-day sales number. How did she do it? By encouraging Swifties to buy multiple copies.

Here’s what was available.

  • 27 (!!!) different physical versions of the album, covering vinyl, CD, and cassette)
  • 2 digital download editions
  • 1 box set featuring a CD and, er, a cardigan

And then there were the cinema presentation album release parties.

If you’re a Taylor Swift fan, she will always find many, many ways to help you spend money on her. That’s why her net worth is beyond $2 billion.
