How do you use your digital assistants like Siri and Alexa? Like this?

I know this is an American YouGov survey, but the results rang true with me. How do you use digital assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant? Here’s how Americans use theirs:

  1. Check the weather
  2. To play muisc
  3. Ask the web a question
  4. Set timers and alarms
  5. Call someone hands-free
  6. Send/receive messages
  7. Make calendar appointments/set reminders
  8. Check traffic
  9. Make to-do list
  10. Smart home functions.

Like I said, that tracks with me. Here’s a more detailed analysis.

Okay, so why wouldn’t you use a digital assistant?

  1. Don’t see the point
  2. Privacy concerns
  3. I don’t know enough about how they work.
  4. They’re creepy.

How could digital assistants be made better?

  1. Better understanding of speech, especially when it comes to accents.
  2. Be able to answer more difficult questions.
  3. Warnings about a healthy home environment (toxicity, humidity, etc.)
  4. Faster results.
  5. More personalization
