Hunger Games is the New Twilight
My wife is completely addicted to Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series. She’s ingesting it via audio books, which means I can’t go anywhere in the house without being exposed to the tournament tribulations of Katniss Everdeen and her ilk.
Regardless of what I think, these novels are huge bestsellers. And when the movie comes out March 23, it will be massive. Twilight massive, but without the attendant horribleness.
(Sidebar: How horrible is Twilight? By dog once stepped on the keyboard of my laptop and accidently wrote a Twilight sequel. I made her spend the night in the garage.)
Naturally, there will be a soundtrack to go along with the film. The Decemberists and the Arcade Fire are two acts confirmed to appear along with Taylor Swift. (If you must hear what she’s contributed, go here.)
Meanwhile, best read up on what these Hunger Games are all about. The kids will be all over it come spring.
On the advice of my friends daughter (who is 14) I read the first Huger Games book. And I'll admit, I like it quite a bit. I have had a very hard time getting in to the second book.
I've never read (nor will I) the Twilight series, so I can't make any comparison, but, I would recommend The Hunger Games to just about anyone.
I am disappointed by the fact that Alan, a man that I feel is intelligent and worthy of my respect, feels the need to stoop to the low of the million other internet trolls by making bad jokes about Twilight.
