I Dis Apple in the Wall Street Journal

Like a lot of people, I had high hopes for some new products from Apple today only to be disappointed.

Here’s an object lesson in how far a single tweet can go.  Check out the last paragraph of this MarketWatch column.

A tweet by Alan Cross of Toronto, who describes himself as a professional music geek, summed up the mentality of Apple fanboys and girls after the event was over: “Best comment I’ve seen so far: “Apple introduces the iPhone Meh.”

I guess this means I won’t be getting a card from Tim Cook, then.

  • I think the people that are disappointed by todays news are the people that expected to see the "rumoured iPhone". People seem to forget when Apple had the 3G and Apple released the 3GS and people were happy.

Please listen to Louis CK talk about cell phones and flying.

  • I really go into these things with low expectations. If Apple really had some ground breaking new tech that no one had ever seen I think there would have been even more fan fare than there was. I did find it interesting that that, when interviewed this morning, the Cnet editor stated that he had low expectations since there were no new technologies that Apple could incorporate that are not already in use by other smart phone makers. Now, after the presentation the same editor says he is disappointed there was nothing really new.

  • I think people forget that Apple didn't hype this. Just a normal new product release.

It was the media that did. The rumour sites went nuts with multiple phones, suspected mock ups. Apple never said a word.

  • 8 months of rumours and speculation sure did build the hype. I'm more angry with the rumour mill. I hope the blogosphere is a little more conservative next time. Perhaps check their sources before spewing any post just to increase the Google PageRank.
