If You Were Jay-Z and Beyonce, Would You Have Taken This Money?

This stinks.  One million dollars of foreign aid money earmarked to help ease poverty in Nigeria was actually funnelled towards a concert featuring Jay-Z and Beyonce.

Back in 2006, Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan–yes, that’s his name–was the government of Bayelsa State.  He okayed the spending of 150 million Nigerian nairas (about $975,000 CAD today) on the first-ever This Day Music Festival in Lagos.  The money came from the state’s “poverty alleviation fund.”

This news surfaced this week when it was discoved that Kim Kardashian was paid $500,000 for some kind of appearance last week.

  • I totally understand people paying Beyonce to make appearances. She has talent and actually does something.

    Who in their right mind pays a Kardashian $500k to appear at their function?! That's just ridiculous.

  • I don't think the issue is that Beyonce was paid, it's that she was paid out of a fund that was supposed to help alleviate poverty in a poverty-stricken nation that desperately needs it.
