Indie to Know: 5 Bands to Hear This Week
It’s Indie to Know, where I comb through the metric ton of emails we get at AJMT to find five bands that you have to hear this week. Yes, email doesn’t technically have weight but if it did, our inbox would be at least one metric ton. On to the music!
Shel Khan
Based out of Toronto, Shel Khan has managed to combine her influences into a very promising sound of her own.”If There’s Nothing” has a bit of a trip hop vibe to it and I think I can detect a little Nine Inch Nails in there. Give it a listen.
Scandinavian Jawbreakers
Sweden’s Scandinavian Jawbreakers showed up in the inbox with an attitude that was hard to ignore. They feel like a band that Lemmy would have appreciated. For fans of rock n’ roll via Motorhead.
The No-Body Project
The No-Body Project is based out of France and is… hard to describe. Odd vocal manipulation and interesting soundscapes. The main way I can describe them is that their music is the right kind of weird.
INTOTHEVOID
INTOTHEVOID (no spaces) hail from Copenhagen with a sound that sounds like it might have been scrapped of the floor of a particularly mean bar in Seattle (I mean that as a compliment). A dark, alternative sound with a bit of Alice in Chains in there DNA. Give “Let’s Keep It Down” a listen.
Outlaw Cartier
Philly’s Outlaw Cartier is a great example of a new artist that blends styles. Post punk rhythms with modern delivery that sounds kind of like modern hip-hop artists but still lands as something else. I really dig what I’ve heard and highly recommend giving “Hellbound” and listen.
