Indie to Know: 5 Bands to Hear This Week
Welcome to Indie to Know where we introduce you to five indie bands that you should give a listen to this week before everyone else hears them. Lets get down to it!
Garrett Anthony Rice
Irish folk rock with solid production and very personal lyrics, I was surprised how quickly this one drew me in. The music is new but has a very familiar and comforting feel to it. Like getting a hug from your mate down at the pub after a crap day. “Sparkling Waterfalls” is his latest.
Juno Temple
Not to be confused with the Ted Lasso actress of the same name, Juno Temple is Guy Gatbois, formerly of Dirty Airlines and grunge band Bosworth. If you like epic guitar soundscapes with a hint of post punk and a touch of shoegaze, this might be up your alley. “Creepy Dreams” is off his latest release, Candy.
Michael William Buckley
From Denmark, we have Michael William Buckley. Buckley is a one man band that grew up on a very healthy dose of 90s alternative and it shows. On “Shoulda Woulda Coulda” we get some very raw Primus vibes.
Awake and Dreaming
Are you looking for some great indie pop? Look no further than Waterloo, Ontario’s Awake and Dreaming. Haunting vocals and solid melodies are what grabbed me. If you want to hear what I mean, give “Antidote” a listen.
Kutie
Kutie is a three piece out of California that makes me feel young and ancient at the same time (for the sake of my sanity, I din’t look up how old they are). A bit of metal, heavy alternative, screamo, and nu-metal into one loud package. Makes you want to get into the pit.
