Is There Anything Nick Nurse Can’t Do?

In a little over ten years, Nick Nurse went from coaching an NBA D-league team in Iowa to becoming a world champion with yo-o-our…Toronto Raptors, and arguably as big a celebrity as some of the players.

Who knew he was also a guitar player? Hamilton’s Arkells apparently did – After watching their beloved Ticats stomp a mudhole on the Argos to the tune of 64-14, the band proceeded to bring the house down at adjacent Budweiser Stage with a 27-song set that included a “Legendary Soul Revue” consisting a Motown covers.

One of them was the Stevie Wonder classic “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours”, featuring the new Canadian men’s basketball team head coach as an additional ax slinger, looking every bit the rockstar in an Arkells Touring Band jacket. Forget whether Kawhi stays or not – Is Nurse committed to trying to repeat, or is he going to pursue his obvious passion as rock’s next guitar god?

Gilles LeBlanc

Gilles LeBlanc literally fell into “alternative rock” wayyy back at Lollapalooza 1992, where he got caught in his first mosh pit watching some band named Pearl Jam. Since then, he’s spent the better part of his life looking for music to match the liberating rush he felt that day, with a particular chest-beating emphasis on stuff coming out of his native Canada. It took him awhile, but Gilles now writes feverishly about all things that rock (and or roll) through his ROCKthusiast alter ego.
