It’s Eurovision season again. Ireland’s entry is wonderfully nuts.

Eurovision is the most batsh*t crazy music competition in the known universe and probably in a few unknown ones, too. We’re starting to become acquainted with the 37 national entries for the 2024 event–which, by the way, will be held in Malmö, Sweden in May.

Ireland’s rep will be Bambie Thug and a song called “Doomsday Blue,” which originally appeared on an 2023 EP entitled Cathexsis. Bambie Thug beat out five other contenders for the right to represent Ireland in the semi-finals.

The song starts out in a style reminiscent of Napoleon XIV bonkers classic “They’re Coming to Take Me Away” and then suddenly morphs into a melodic pop song for the chorus. Please enjoy. Meanwhile, I will keep monitoring the entries for this year’s gems.

  • I am so glad that someone else got the Napoleon XIV vibe from this! Hoping that it gets Ireland to the Final for the first time since 2018 – seeing that fans either love or can’t stand this bodes well, given Eurovision is all about positive voting!
