Jack White released a surprise new album on Friday. But there’s a catch. A bunch of them.

It’s been two years since Entering Heaven Alive, the last Jack White studio record. But on Friday, he suddenly released something brand new. There is, however, a catch. A bunch of them.

There’s no title nor does the album have any artwork (it comes in a plain white sleeve with “NO NAME” in blue on the label.) It’s available only on vinyl (a White Stripes-like swirl, catalogue number TMR-1000) and was only available at Third Man Stores. Those stores only exist in Nashville, Detroit, and London. And it was available for free just on Friday (July 19).

Those who were lucky to be in the right place at the right time to hear it say that it’s “stripped down blues rock” and “the songs go hard.” Another comment is “Five tracks in and so far this is the most White Stripesy solo release I’ve heard from Jack!”

Some people shopping at the store had the record surreptitiously put into their shopping bag. They had no idea they’d got one until they arrived home.

Back in April, he did release a teaser for something on Instagram, but that post has disappeared.

Anyone have any links to posts so we can all hear it?
