Jack White’s Keyboardist Dies in the Middle of Mexican Tour

If you saw any of the shows on Jack White’s most recent tour, you may have been amazed by the chops of Ikey Owens, the guy who played keyboards to Jack’s left. Sadly, Owens passed away as the band toured through Mexico. This is from the Third Man Records site:

It is with great sadness that we tell the world of the passing of the incredible musician Isaiah “Ikey” Owens. He will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, bandmates and fans.

Ikey Owens was an astounding keyboard player in Jack White’s backing band. He also played with Mars Volta, Free Moral Agents, and many other projects.

Out of respect for Ikey, the remaining shows of the Jack White Tour in Mexico have been cancelled.

We will all miss you Ikey. You were and are an incredible artist.

Ownes died early Tuesday at the Camino Real hotel on Via Atlixcáyotl in Puebla. A Mexican report says he died of “aspiration,” whatever that means. Thanks to Hector for the information.
