JJ Abrams is working on a scripted bio of U2 for Netflix

There’s a lot to unpack in that headline, isn’t there? And there’s more.

JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot production company has hired Anthony McCarten, the writer of the Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, to take care of the script. U2 is also involved, “expected to be evolved and sanction” the show. Everything seems destined for Netflix.

Back to McCarten for a sec: The man does know how to write biographies, having already been part of projects profiling not just Freddie Mercury but Stephen Hawking, Winston Churchill, and a couple of popes.

The title? Unknown. The plot? Unknown. Casting? Unknown. How the public will react? Unknown. What we do know, however, is that U2’s history goes all the way back to 1976, so there’s plenty of material to draw on.
