WTF?

John Hinckley, who tried to assassinate Ronald Reagan in 1981, now fancies himself a recording artist. And he’s going to play live. (Updated)

Back on March 30, 1981, John Hinckley thought he’d impress Jodie Foster by gunning down Ronald Regan in broad daylight. He almost succeeded, too, Imagine how different history might have been had that bullet landed a few centimetres over.

With his life ruined, \he has to find something to occupy his time. He’s become a singer-songwriter. And now that he’s out of jail and a judge says he can post music under his own name, he’s doing just that.

And not only that, but he’s got some gigs lined up.

Things are boffo at the box office, too.

The hotel is very sympathetic to Hinckley’s ambitions, too.

The man served 40 years in prison / mental health treatment, paid his debt to society. Several darlings of indie music had mental health issues + committed violence / tried to kill people. Daniel Johnston for instance attempted murder more than once and tried to crash an airplane.

And that word’s out, he’s receiving other offers from across the US. Read more here. Further information is available here.

  • Couple things. 1. You try to kill a president… you should be hung or put away forever, at least. 2. The best thing his assassination attempt gave us was JFA!!!! I never “got them” but the name!!! Perfect punk aesthetic. 3. This wasn’t awful. Jodie Foster’s Army should totally cover this.
