Just In Case You Care About the Grammys….

I don’t care about the Grammys one whit, but I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t at least list the nominees in a couple of categories:

Best Rock Album:
13 — Black Sabbath
The Next Day — David Bowie
Mechanical Bull — Kings Of Leon
Celebration Day — Led Zeppelin
…Like Clockwork — Queens Of The Stone Age
Psychedelic Pill — Neil Young With Crazy Horse

Wow.  Where to begin?  Led f**kin’ Zeppelin?  They get a nom for something they did live in 2007?  Only Bowie and QotSA deserve to be here.  The number of artists left out (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Pearl Jam, Foxygen–even Alice in Chains) is staggering.

Best Rock Performance:
“Always Alright” — Alabama Shakes
“The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” — David Bowie
“Radioactive” — Imagine Dragons
“Kashmir” (Live) — Led Zeppelin
“My God Is The Sun” — Queens Of The Stone Age
“I’m Shakin'” — Jack White

I repeat:  Led F**kin’ Zeppelin? What kind of lobbying when into this one?

Best Alternative Music Album:
The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You — Neko Case
Trouble Will Find Me — The National
Hesitation Marks — Nine Inch Nails
Lonerism — Tame Impala
Modern Vampires Of The City — Vampire Weekend

Not bad, really.  I can live with this list.

  • KoL's Mechanical Bull is deserving…and might win.

And yes very surprised not to see Lightning Bolt in there. Hmm..

  • While they were still together, Led Zeppelin was only ever nominated for Best New Artist in 1970 and lost. Which I say only to point out how badly the Grammys suck. If your intention is to make an argument about deserving artists being left out, you couldn't have made a more ironic choice than Led Zeppelin as your rallying cry.
