Just in time for Father’s Day: Rockstar dads

[An appropriate post today from Elisa F.G.- AC]

You don’t have to be Wolfgang Van Halen to consider your pop’ a rockstar and you don’t have to be Eddie Van Halen to be a rockstar dad, nor do you have to name your bloodline after legendary composers in order to spawn more legendary kids, although it probably doesn’t hurt considering Eddie was given the middle name Lodewijk (after Beethoven) and Wolfgang’s full name has both Wolfgang and Van Halen in it (highly unlikely, of course) that family would become famous bowlers or anything other than killer performers, even Momma Van Halen is none other than Valerie Bertinelli!

Animal lovers: You totally count as rockstar parents too, Ozzy Osbourne is Ozzy Osbourne and he still named his Pomeranian Rocky The Rockstar. Alan Cross is the proud father of two lovely young ladies/bull terriers (Schmooze and Squrit; as usual, a card was waiting for him when he got up this morning). And Audrey Hepburn might not have been considered “a dad” but her dog’s name was Mr. Famous, she loved him so much he co-starred in Funny Face. Even big names have had fur babies.(as well as human babies). Love is love.

“Let me tell you, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone hit the drums as hard as this person,” Dave Grohl assured fans on May 26th at the 2023 Boston Calling Music Festival, “Ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome, Mr. Shane Hawkins on the drums.” He says right before Shane kills it in honour of his late father, Taylor Hawkins.

An amazing drum solo, 99 red balloons, a card, a call – legendary rockstar dads will appreciate whatever love you’ve got to give!  Even fun music facts, dads love facts! I mean, if your dad hired Andy Warhol as your cool babysitter you’d want to thank him somehow, right? Six fun Fathers Day music facts might suffice!

  1. Andy Warhol was Jade Jaggers’s babysitter for a period of time. Cool that Mick Jagger was knighted by the Queen and all but hiring Warhol? That’s pretty damn cool too.
  2. Liv Tyler attended a concert with her mother when she was nine years old, only to learn that  the rockstar she was watching on stage was her paternal father, Steven Tyler. The only inkling she had that he may have been her dad were the Aerosmith posters in her bedroom. Something inside told her… this dudes’ my dad.
  3. John Legend is a legend to his kids already and not cause he’s one of the very few that got the EGOT. (Emmy Award, Grammy Award, Oscar and Tony Award.)
  4. Kurt Cobain dubbed his daughter Bean after seeing her resemblance to a kidney bean in an ultrasound. Frances Bean resembles her famous dad way more than a kidney bean these days. No?
  5. Paul Anka… is Jason Bateman’s father in law.
  6. Norah Jones’ father is Ravi Shankar, The Beatles’ favourite sitar player.

Which reads better??
